If the ariels on an r/c sub and its controller are replaced with a single cable, will it still work?

i want to fit a camera to a radio controlled submarine which means having wires going from the controller (where the screen will be) to the submarine. if i am having cables attached i might as well use another cable instead of the ariels, then i dont have to worry about going too deep or out of range, i think it should work, but theres probably something technical that i'm missing coz it seems too easy. any ideas?
